08.01.2014 - 00:00

The first phase of the tender for the selection of the private partner who will undertake the implementation of the Eastern Macedonia & Thrace waste management PPP project concluded.

Seven (7) candidates had submitted expressions of interest and, by decision of the Municipality of Alexandroupolis on December 20th 2013, six (6) qualify and continue to the competitive dialogue procedure:

  1. TERNA ENERGY
  2. AKTOR CONCESSIONS - HELEKTOR
  3. TOXOTIS
  4. ΜΕΤΚΑ - CH. D. KONSTANTINIDIS
  5. ARCHIRODON GROUP - INTRAKAT - ENVITEC
  6. J&P AVAX - ΜESOGEIOS

The private partner will be selected through an international public tender via a competitive dialogue procedure and will undertake the design, construction, financing, maintenance and operation of the waste management facility for a period of 27 years. The relevant infrastructure will have the capacity to manage about 150 thousand tons of waste annually.

As in all waste management PPP competitions in Greece, the process allows all available technologies that cover the environmental targets set by European and Greek legislation, fostering healthy competition among bidders and facilitating the selection of the optimal solution.

The lowest fee to be paid by the users will constitute the main selection criterion, while meeting all environmental goals.

The project will utilize funds provided by the European Union's structural funds for the co-financing of the construction costs, along with private funds.
