Offers submitted for the broadband development PPP project in rural areas of Greece

Two (2) candidates submitted their offers on Friday, February 28th 2014, for the open international public tender procedure for the selection of the private partner who will undertake the broadband development PPP project in rural areas of Greece.

The candidates expressed interest as follows:

  1. INTRAKAT - INTRACOM HOLDINGS - HELLAS ON LINE
  2. OTE SA

The project's goal is the installation and operation of necessary infrastructure for broadband internet access, in order to achieve digital convergence of the most disadvantaged rural areas of Greece with the rest of the country.

The project aims to achieving economic and social development and improving the quality of life of residents in mountainous and island regions of the country. Broadband is expected to have a positive effect on the creation of new businesses and jobs, while contributing to the improvement of services provided to the population, in areas such as health, education and tourism.

The budget of the project amounts to 161 million Euros, which will be funded by EU funds, while the private partner selected will cover the operation period. The total duration of the contract is 17 years.
